The West Nyack Rotary Club members distributed 48 Dictionaries to the 3rd grade students of Strawtown Elementary School in Rockland County, New York.
Dr. Renée M. Brilliant was the driving force behind the project. She initially started working on this project 3 years ago but was not sure the children would appreciate using dictionaries because of the Internet.
To our surprise all the children were elated and said they love the dictionaries and will use them for school essays and it will help them to look up hard words that they were not aware of. Many of the students were full of enthusiasm and one young boy shared about his family losing their roof in the Philippines. His story came in response to Deirdre Guilfoyle sharing the meaning of our shelter box disaster program and what Rotary does around the world. Overall we were so happy to see the smiling faces of each boy and girl right here in our own backyard in Clarkstown, Rockland County, New York.
